The launch ceremony for the Japan Micro-Credential Organization (JMICRO) was held on November 17, 2025, at the sola city Hall [EAST] of the Ochanomizu Sola City Conference Center in Kanda-Surugadai, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
This organization was established to further enhance the public benefit of the activities carried out by the Micro-Credential Joint Working Group (WG), which was launched in August 2023. The Joint WG was formed through a partnership between three bodies: the Forum for Promoting University Internationalization, the Japan Virtual Campus Operating Committee, and the Japan Open Online Education Promotion Council (JMOOC). They have been working to promote the spread of micro-credentials in Japan and to achieve international collaboration within the Asia-Pacific region.
The launch ceremony’s program included an opening address, a presentation on the organization’s business activities, an introduction to each committee, and guidance on joining (regarding the membership system). Following the closing of the ceremony, attendees moved to networking and exchanging opinions at the same venue.
This day marks an important step toward the future goals of widespread adoption and international collaboration for micro-credentials.
