On January 23, 2025, Miriam College hosted a significant event focused on fostering collaboration in higher education through the implementation of micro-credentials. During the gathering, Dr. Eiji Tomida of Ehime University in Japan shared valuable insights regarding micro-credential initiatives from Japan and his alma mater. The session served as a platform for partner universities and colleges to discuss the future of these specialized certifications in the academic sector.
The event highlighted the work of the Micro-credential Circle (Japan & Philippines), a group composed of educators from a wide range of institutions. Participating organizations include Ehime University from Japan, as well as the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, UPLB, PUP Manila, and Iloilo State University of Fisheries, Science, & Technology. Other key members of the circle include Panpacific University, Trinity University of Asia, Miriam College, World Citi Colleges, Bulacan State University, and REX Education.
The collaboration is set to grow even further, with more higher education institutions and colleagues from both Japan and the Philippines expected to join the initiative in the near future. There is a strong sense of excitement among the participants as they continue to work together on micro-credential development. The organizers extended their gratitude to the host, Miriam College, and all participating partners for their dedication to this international educational partnership.
